Is there a way to access hotmail/yahoomail etc. from work even it's blocked by the company?
Going to blocked websites is likely to get you into trouble and they probably made you sign something promising not to do it. Of course, Hotmail and Yahoo are not the only mail programs. Maybe you could find one that is not blocked. There are many free email sites, e.g. excite.com, mail.com, netscape.com, and try list from link below.

just create a shadow account in OE of your hotmails, you could do it by clicking tools on top then account then mail tab the add on the right hand side then mail it will ask for your display name, email address and the when you click on next it will give you your server details no need to change anything then again next type in you password next again then finish and close out of OE(outlook express) again open it click on hotmail click on synchronise and you will recieve all your emails but beware if you delete any email it will be delete in the hotmail server.........enjoy

Outlook does have a comfirmation, you have to go to tools and set it up, you can even tell it the you want a receipt that the email has been read.

It is working for me however there were problems a few days ago, presumably because MSN was doing server maintenance.. Try clearing your internet cache and sign in by going to msn.com.

Nope, but what you can do is create a new account, then have your e-mail forwarded from the first account to the second in case anyone important sends e-mail to your old account. After everyone knows your new e-mail address you can close the old one.

No not now, you can have emails diverted to certain folders look under options. If I was you I would put my secruety level up on msn either deleting or stopping all junk mail.

How can I find out someone's email address on hotmail if I know the whole name ?
I am sure hotmail will have the provision to search for people by their name. Just give the exact detail of your friend and it should give you the email id of your friends. However there are 2 situation in that you will not be given the email id of your friend:
1- If your friend did not enter his/her name correctly during the registration in hotmail
2- If your friend choose not to display his/her detail in public.

Reply:In MS Outlook go to tools, then e-mail accounts, a box will appear and click on add e-mail account, click on pop3 and then next, complete the information and do not click the box in the left corner. For incoming mail server insert: pop.mail.yahoo.com and outgoing: smtp.mail.yahoo.com

Panicking won't help. The answer and password might come to you. If it doesn't, you can contact Hotmail on the website and it's possible to change a password. Your secret answer needs to be something like the name of a hobby; a friend's or your mother's maiden name or a word you use often .... for example, 'terrific'. Yahoo are pretty good at helping you to change your password if you have forgotten. I no longer use Hotmail, as I find Yahoo much more user-friendly, but I'm sure Hotmail have a way of helping you recover from this.

How do i get my email to work in outlook i have a hotmail email address?
just create a shadow account in OE of your hotmails, you could do it by clicking tools on top then account then mail tab the add on the right hand side then mail it will ask for your display name, email address and the when you click on next it will give you your server details no need to change anything then again next type in you password next again then finish and close out of OE(outlook express) again open it click on hotmail click on synchronise and you will recieve all your emails but beware if you delete any email it will be delete in the hotmail server.........enjoy

Outlook does have a comfirmation, you have to go to tools and set it up, you can even tell it the you want a receipt that the email has been read.

It is working for me however there were problems a few days ago, presumably because MSN was doing server maintenance.. Try clearing your internet cache and sign in by going to msn.com.

How do I set up a second Hotmail account?
Just like you did the first one except different name, id %26amp; email address. I have 2 on hotmail %26amp; yahoo. You have to be logged out of you currect one. Just go to register and start filling in the new id etc. Very easy.

i am going to asume that you have checked to make sure the hotmail address is correct-- you may have to forward it as an attachment rather then a direct forward

Is there a way to access hotmail/yahoomail etc. from work even it's blocked by the company?
Going to blocked websites is likely to get you into trouble and they probably made you sign something promising not to do it. Of course, Hotmail and Yahoo are not the only mail programs. Maybe you could find one that is not blocked. There are many free email sites, e.g. excite.com, mail.com, netscape.com, and try list from link below.

go to options then click more options. then there is manage account, mail and so on. you can alter who sends you things and where your mail goes. sometimes your mail goes to junk so you can change that setting.

This happened to me last week and I emailed them and they told me there was a problem in my area I lived in. Hope tomorrow your hotmail works. I also lost all my emails I had when I was able to log in the next day so I no longer use hotmail as they are not reliable to use for work emails I had in my hotmail account.They told me someone got into my account and deleted all I had for where I work. I got yelled at from my boss and now no longer use hotmail. Hope you can log in tomorrow and do not find all of your emails are deleted.

Can I send and receive (hotmail) e-mails in Mail without going onto the internet to the hotmail site? - I will still use the online hotmail, when I'm away from my computer.
One on my friends suggested using Gmail, but there's too much hassle changing everything over. (all my internet shopping accounts, all the forums account, all my contacts I have stored). Plus I want to keep using Adium (all my friends have hotmail and MSN on Windows, but iChat doesn't work).
So I don't want Gmail for sending them all e-mails while still using hotmail to chat... I'd rather they'd all be under the one account (hotmail).

if you are getting .co.uk it's because they see your IP is coming from the UK. Find a proxy server in US and then signup and you'll get a .com rather than .co.uk

All your emails will be there when they fix the problem. Its a pain in the but dont get me wrong. But dont be worried. they will be there. It takes anywhere between an hour -4 hours to show up.

Using Hotmail to send in Job Application
So I'm applying for a job where they request you send in your resume via: email. Is it unprofessional to use hotmail to send it in? My address is in the form of lastname.firstname@hotmail.com.
I just remember someone saying that it isn't a good idea to use hotmail for these sort of things.
If so, are there any free email services that would be better to use?

This is very very weird... Ok earlier today I signed into my hotmail account with no problem. But now just recently, I signed in with my correct user id and password, it keeps saying "You don't have an Inbox yet, sign up for one here". WTF is this crap? Anyone else getting this? Please tell me its not some kinda virus.

So I had emailed them about it and I had received a reply back earlier today. I was going to check the email out and this was the problem that happened. I hope this is fixed soon. Reply:I just signed in on msn messenger and clicked the little icon in the messenger box to take me to my hotmail inbox and instead it opened outlook which I've never used and never will.
Finally I just went to hotmail and signed in the old fashioned way and it say's I don't have an inbox. All my contacts are there though.
Something tells me this is conficker.
I hope my 10 years worth of saved emails aren't gone forever. Or maybe it's for the best. Been meaning to clean it out for....... 10 years.

Because when I try to use the hotmail acount it directs to a page with the message "you dont'n have an inbox yet, etc...." but when I try to use the live account it simply refreshes the page. I, like others, have had a hotmail account for maybe over 15 years and never had a problem like this. Reply:None of the solution posted here were really solutions, just dumb luck. MS was having issue with LiveID and that was the cause of the issue. I Twittered about it and that was the response form Microsoft cares. 10 minute later both my hotmail and live accounts worked (with nothing being done on my machine). And I did not lose any emails.
As far as everyone who seems to hate MS hotmail, don't use it nobody forces you to. For as many email accounts as hotmail hosts for free this is the first big outage I can remember in quite some time. And I have a gmail account also and seem to remember a pretty big outage for them in the past year. So nobody's perfect.
The important thing is they got it fixed, no data was loss and the outage was not extended for to long. What more can you ask from a free email account. If you want 24/7 guaranteed service the ante up and pay for an email service, otherwise shut-up and quit complaining.

Reply:We can all agree on this being a general problem that's happening all around the world. So obviously Windows Live is having some kind of internal problem WHICH THEY FAILED TO MENTION TO US. I love Windows Live but I HATE the idiots who built it. Don't they know the meaning of keeping their customers informed of current crisis situations? It's ridiculous. They do this all the time when there's an internal failure on their end, they love secrecy and I think we can all hate them for that. We should all switch over to Yahoo messenger just to annoy them or something.
Reply:I had the exact same thing. I also have been on hotmail for over 7 years, and nothing like this has happened. I am not going to freak out too much yet though, sometimes these things get sorted out. If not they really need to work on their help desk cause there is no way to ask about anything and their FAQ are kinda unhelpful... hopefully there's an answer soon
Reply:OMG!!!!! Just realised, within the last 40 minutes of this question being posted, already 218 people have replied! Feels great to know I'm not alone. My sister tried hers, so did my dad. They're having the same issues...contacts still there, inbox no longer exists. For me though...the damn thing won't even accept my password!!!! I changed it last week, when I had my account hacked! The hacker sent emails to ALL my contacts advertising a fraud electronic store website, then deleted my contacts' list (8 years of a list archived to perfection...first names, last names, middle names even, phone numbers, primary/sec/tertiary email addresses...all gone!). I was able to recover all the email addresses and their full names through my sent mails....but the list was still gone! I called microsoft...howled at their poor customer service...then went back to using the damn thing the next day since I was left with little choice (8 years worth of emails in there). I figured I should consider switching to outlook just yesterday...but couldn't figure out how to set up the thing. And today...poof...it's all gone. What's worse in my case is though, that my password is no longer accepted either!!!! God help us all!!! *fingers crossed* Lets all pray it's only a server error and things go back to normal for most of us by tomorrow morning. And...by the time my message is posted to this thread...I expect to have another 3 replies right after mine...that bring the count to 221? *sigh*

I freaked when it said I had to sign up again, I got through once - thinking it was an upgrade or something - and it asked me for my Windows Live ID and, once typed in, it told me it was already taken - duh, by me! All the other times my "Network Timed Out."
I'm so glad someone posted this question, I was going to break something soon. I think the only thing we can do now is wait it out and hope hotmail fixes the problem. And soon.
I did manage to teach my roommate a few more swear words though. So... some good came out of it, lol.

I have a "hotmail" e-mail address, and the last time I logged in to check my e-mail messages was at about 10:30PM Eastern time on 4/9/2009, and my inbo was there and everything was normal. However, less than an hour ago, I logged in again and my inbox was just GONE. I have been sick and crying my eyes out ever since, because I have an inbox FULL of the most important %26amp; sentimental e-mails anyone could ever imagine. My inbox is one of the most important things to me in he world! It's saying (every time I try to log in) that "You do not have an inbox yet, sign up for one here." Since it appears as if many, many other users are having the same problem all of a sudden, I'm hoping it's just a temporary glitch that MSN will have repaired within the next few hours or so. Until then, I am going to remain very ill. Let's keep our fingers crossed, and hope this gets fixed soon! I also noticed some people said something about a Conficker?
I'm a Mac user and from what i know the Conficker only affects Windows users, so i guess that's not it.

This has happened before and then again now.
I am getting the same error as of yesterday. Just prior to this message I noticed this error that said something like the site is undergoing maintenance.
My guess is that hotmail is migrating to the latest exchange server and that comes with the usual set of architecture and migration of millions of user accounts such as yours and mine. It might take a few days given that we are all free customers, It might never happen as possible the migration expert dumped all our .pst files. Assuming that each hotmail account is held in .PST files.
This is just my guess and theory. Anyways , I always try to duplicate mails and have it stored in yahoo, gmail etc... That way if all the corporations conspire to eliminate free email users, at least there might be one dissenter who will provide free email.
Until then , user a free tool like thunderbird or other email client to download all the emails as soon as you have obtained access. ..

I did manage to access my older mail by using the windows live mail app through msn messenger, which is lucky cos i had tickets that needed printing for today, would've been screwed otherwise.

It's my sole source of contact with loads of people and my storage unit for all school info I've accumulated in the last month from letters of recommendation to student/teacher conversations. You then Install and open Windows LIVE Mail and Messenger (Found on the desktop or in the start menu - make it's its Windows LIVE Mail not Windows Mail). Once it's opened, you can configure your account and it will retrieve your old hotmail files and emails!

Scared me at first because a couple weeks ago, for about 5 days straight I kept receiving Password reset emails 2 to 3 times a day. I never once requested my password to be reset, so I thought maybe there were problems...but looks like all will be fine.

Reply:Ok, people earlier in this thread stated that they CAN get into their Hotmail accounts via iPhone and all the e-mails are still there. So it must be something that doesn't affect the iPhone netowrk but does affect desktops and laptops. The important thing is that they report the e-mails are still there. I think that's a good sign.

Reply:I had the exact same thing. I also have been on hotmail for over 7 years, and nothing like this has happened. I am not going to freak out too much yet though, sometimes these things get sorted out. If not they really need to work on their help desk cause there is no way to ask about anything and their FAQ are kinda unhelpful... hopefully there's an answer soon
Reply:OMG!!!!! Just realised, within the last 40 minutes of this question being posted, already 218 people have replied! Feels great to know I'm not alone. My sister tried hers, so did my dad. They're having the same issues...contacts still there, inbox no longer exists. For me though...the damn thing won't even accept my password!!!! I changed it last week, when I had my account hacked! The hacker sent emails to ALL my contacts advertising a fraud electronic store website, then deleted my contacts' list (8 years of a list archived to perfection...first names, last names, middle names even, phone numbers, primary/sec/tertiary email addresses...all gone!). I was able to recover all the email addresses and their full names through my sent mails....but the list was still gone! I called microsoft...howled at their poor customer service...then went back to using the damn thing the next day since I was left with little choice (8 years worth of emails in there). I figured I should consider switching to outlook just yesterday...but couldn't figure out how to set up the thing. And today...poof...it's all gone. What's worse in my case is though, that my password is no longer accepted either!!!! God help us all!!! *fingers crossed* Lets all pray it's only a server error and things go back to normal for most of us by tomorrow morning. And...by the time my message is posted to this thread...I expect to have another 3 replies right after mine...that bring the count to 221? *sigh*
Reply:Oh thank god! I'm so glad to know it's hotmail and not me! I was so sure I had a virus, because wouldn't that just be so my life.
I freaked when it said I had to sign up again, I got through once - thinking it was an upgrade or something - and it asked me for my Windows Live ID and, once typed in, it told me it was already taken - duh, by me! All the other times my "Network Timed Out."
I'm so glad someone posted this question, I was going to break something soon. I think the only thing we can do now is wait it out and hope hotmail fixes the problem. And soon.
I did manage to teach my roommate a few more swear words though. So... some good came out of it, lol.

I have been using hotmail for the last 8 years, and have never had this problem.
There is a constant loop. It says "You don't have an inbox... yet." The only option given is to "Sign up for Windows Live Hotmail". When I click that there is an option that says "Already a Hotmail..... member? Click here." This link simply brings me back to point A where it says "You don't have an inbox... yet."
What is the solution to this?
Reply:OMG! The same thing is happening to me right now, too! I have a "hotmail" e-mail address, and the last time I logged in to check my e-mail messages was at about 10:30PM Eastern time on 4/9/2009, and my inbo was there and everything was normal. However, less than an hour ago, I logged in again and my inbox was just GONE. I have been sick and crying my eyes out ever since, because I have an inbox FULL of the most important %26amp; sentimental e-mails anyone could ever imagine. My inbox is one of the most important things to me in he world! It's saying (every time I try to log in) that "You do not have an inbox yet, sign up for one here." Since it appears as if many, many other users are having the same problem all of a sudden, I'm hoping it's just a temporary glitch that MSN will have repaired within the next few hours or so. Until then, I am going to remain very ill. Let's keep our fingers crossed, and hope this gets fixed soon! If anyone hears or figures anything out (how to fix it or get around it) PLEASE post it on here and update all of us user that are suffering from an anxiety attacks right now. Thank you! ~Angie~
Reply:This also happened to me, and when i clicked the "Already using Hotmail, Messenger, or Xbox LIVE?" i logged in normally and it still sent me to the "You don't have an inbox" thing.
I also noticed some people said something about a Conficker?
I'm a Mac user and from what i know the Conficker only affects Windows users, so i guess that's not it.
I hope this problem gets fixed soon...

This has happened before and then again now.
I am getting the same error as of yesterday. Just prior to this message I noticed this error that said something like the site is undergoing maintenance.
My guess is that hotmail is migrating to the latest exchange server and that comes with the usual set of architecture and migration of millions of user accounts such as yours and mine. It might take a few days given that we are all free customers, It might never happen as possible the migration expert dumped all our .pst files. Assuming that each hotmail account is held in .PST files.
This is just my guess and theory. Anyways , I always try to duplicate mails and have it stored in yahoo, gmail etc... That way if all the corporations conspire to eliminate free email users, at least there might be one dissenter who will provide free email.
Until then , user a free tool like thunderbird or other email client to download all the emails as soon as you have obtained access. ..

Reply:I have it too. My girfriend lives over in Holland and she had it yesterday already so I think it's a pretty widespread Hotmail issue. I did manage to access my older mail by using the windows live mail app through msn messenger, which is lucky cos i had tickets that needed printing for today, would've been screwed otherwise.
Reply:The same thing happened to me just minutes ago. That inbox is full to the brim of all my information for college and scholarships and everything I've ever made a sign-in name for. It's my sole source of contact with loads of people and my storage unit for all school info I've accumulated in the last month from letters of recommendation to student/teacher conversations. I'm a 5-year user, and I need this inbox.
Reply:i have a perfect logical explanation, I would assume windows live having tech problems right now. Not only has this happaned world wide, but windows is not even giving a crap about what happened. I recently read a windows live admin comment about this and they just said go and sign up.... If this problem still presists id have to say it's goodbye to emails now. I have the same problem as well and im not happy about this either.

Download Windows Live Mail!
Located at http://download.live.com/wlmail
You then Install and open Windows LIVE Mail and Messenger (Found on the desktop or in the start menu - make it's its Windows LIVE Mail not Windows Mail). Once it's opened, you can configure your account and it will retrieve your old hotmail files and emails!
Reply:Haha..I was like "WTF" at first too, but I keep receiving emails to my blackberry as well for both my Hotmail accounts, so obviously the inbox still exists. It'll probably be fixed soon...hopefully :)
Scared me at first because a couple weeks ago, for about 5 days straight I kept receiving Password reset emails 2 to 3 times a day. I never once requested my password to be reset, so I thought maybe there were problems...but looks like all will be fine.
Reply:i hate to break it to you guys, but remember that april fools virus that there was widespread fear about? well the programmers that made it knew that companies would beef up their protection for the anticipation of the virus, obviously. so the only smart thing to do would be to wait a few days/week until the fear was forgotten, and then unleash it on innocent internet users in full force. microsoft isnt a hard egg to crack either. hate to say it, but myself, along with you all, apparently have been hacked.

And i really need to access to my hotmail. so i browse the web, try to find a way to get to my inbox.. one of the post i see said that you could access to your inbox through your itouch or iphone.. so i try,.. appearing it works. so i hope this temperary solution will help those that really need to get into their inbox.
Reply:Ok, people earlier in this thread stated that they CAN get into their Hotmail accounts via iPhone and all the e-mails are still there. So it must be something that doesn't affect the iPhone netowrk but does affect desktops and laptops. The important thing is that they report the e-mails are still there. I think that's a good sign.
