Is it just me, or is the new hotmail slower?
u guys sound like u have a lack of resources on the PC,,, if u cant run the dynamic code on the new msn mail site either revert to the older setup ,,, do some house cleaning system wise, or upgrade physical components,, memory,, video, network interface , etc, etc, etc

as this is claimed to be the faster website, in my opinion this has been faster than usual.

If someone replys to and email that i send to them... IT goes to a Hotmail account. How can I fix it..?
Change or correct the "reply to" setting.
Mail page%26gt;%26gt;options (top right)%26gt;%26gt;scroll to and click on "general preferences".
At the top of that page, under *Names and Emails*---you will find the "reply to" line.
IF you want the replies coming to the account which you mail from-----then that line should be left blank. Erase anything (I assume the hotmail acct) on it and then click "save" at bottom of page.

Incredimail seems to mess with my pc, and cloud 8 is nice but seems like it's for the older bunch. Stationery makes your letters and notes so much better.

I used to be able to instant chat with contacts through hotmail without having to use messenger. (I'm in work and cannot use messenger)

... and i can't find my way back. I tried using an online translator, and using a friend's account to look at the layout of the page, however, I don't know how to get back.

Can I send and receive (hotmail) e-mails in Mail without going onto the internet to the hotmail site? - I will still use the online hotmail, when I'm away from my computer.
One on my friends suggested using Gmail, but there's too much hassle changing everything over. (all my internet shopping accounts, all the forums account, all my contacts I have stored). Plus I want to keep using Adium (all my friends have hotmail and MSN on Windows, but iChat doesn't work).
So I don't want Gmail for sending them all e-mails while still using hotmail to chat... I'd rather they'd all be under the one account (hotmail).

if you are getting .co.uk it's because they see your IP is coming from the UK. Find a proxy server in US and then signup and you'll get a .com rather than .co.uk

this is easy, just open the mail and select show full header to show there I.P address. hope this helps you.

All your emails will be there when they fix the problem. Its a pain in the but dont get me wrong. But dont be worried. they will be there. It takes anywhere between an hour -4 hours to show up.

So I'm applying for a job where they request you send in your resume via: email. Is it unprofessional to use hotmail to send it in? My address is in the form of lastname.firstname@hotmail.com.
I just remember someone saying that it isn't a good idea to use hotmail for these sort of things.
If so, are there any free email services that would be better to use?

My Hotmail Account is saying I don't have an Inbox when I already do??? help?
This is very very weird... Ok earlier today I signed into my hotmail account with no problem. But now just recently, I signed in with my correct user id and password, it keeps saying "You don't have an Inbox yet, sign up for one here". WTF is this crap? Anyone else getting this? So I had emailed them about it and I had received a reply back earlier today. I was going to check the email out and this was the problem that happened. I hope this is fixed soon. Reply:I just signed in on msn messenger and clicked the little icon in the messenger box to take me to my hotmail inbox and instead it opened outlook which I've never used and never will.
Finally I just went to hotmail and signed in the old fashioned way and it say's I don't have an inbox. All my contacts are there though.
Something tells me this is conficker.

This morning I checked my Hotmail and it was working just find until I checked it agian before I went to bed its said that I dont have a inbox yet when I already have a account with hotmail. Reply:Well, I hope it's not a Jacker attack to the hotmail servers, it might be just a temporary maintenance to the servers. Because when I try to use the hotmail acount it directs to a page with the message "you dont'n have an inbox yet, etc...." but when I try to use the live account it simply refreshes the page. I kept thinking “Apparently, I’m typing in the wrong information, even though I've been using Hotmail for more than ten years now.” Idiocy, I thought. Mistakes are mankind's greatest resource, after all. I tried and tried and tried again, but to no avail. I've not backed up the most important messages in this particular inbox, which I've been using as my main information junction since I first became hip to this whole internet thing. I'm not certain of the number of messages on the head, but I do know that I've got at least eight hundred important bits in there. I do hope that this is all fixed by tomorrow. First yahoo, now Hotmail?
Exactly what advantage does the Hotmail of 1998 have over the Hotmail of 2009?
It seems to me that a problem of this magnitude, which will probably amount to nothing more or less than a technical glitch, (let's hope so) should've been robbed of its potential years ago.

Reply:OMGoodness...WHEEEEEEWWWWW...I am glad I searched this because I am having the same exaact issue as everybody else. ...but the funny thing is that my husband can log into both of his hotmail accounts with no problem....WEIRD....I was just about to go into my contacts and send out an email from my ComCast email account that I was going too close my hotmail account so remove me,.....and I still think I will get rid of hotmail email all together because 2 weeks ago I could not even sign in with my name and pw...I had too go through all this stuff with hotmail too get my account back and now this is happening....yep...just need my importatnt email out of this account and I am forwarding all my email too another accout....THIS IS RIDICULOUS

I, like others, have had a hotmail account for maybe over 15 years and never had a problem like this. I can't even write to customer support for Hotmail because I am too frustrated and freaked out to actually search for where to write. I'm going to reboot, and if that doesn't work, pray.
Reply:None of the solution posted here were really solutions, just dumb luck. MS was having issue with LiveID and that was the cause of the issue. I Twittered about it and that was the response form Microsoft cares. 10 minute later both my hotmail and live accounts worked (with nothing being done on my machine). And I did not lose any emails.
As far as everyone who seems to hate MS hotmail, don't use it nobody forces you to. For as many email accounts as hotmail hosts for free this is the first big outage I can remember in quite some time. And I have a gmail account also and seem to remember a pretty big outage for them in the past year. So nobody's perfect.
The important thing is they got it fixed, no data was loss and the outage was not extended for to long. What more can you ask from a free email account. If you want 24/7 guaranteed service the ante up and pay for an email service, otherwise shut-up and quit complaining.

Reply:We can all agree on this being a general problem that's happening all around the world. So obviously Windows Live is having some kind of internal problem WHICH THEY FAILED TO MENTION TO US. I love Windows Live but I HATE the idiots who built it. Don't they know the meaning of keeping their customers informed of current crisis situations? It's ridiculous. They do this all the time when there's an internal failure on their end, they love secrecy and I think we can all hate them for that. We should all switch over to Yahoo messenger just to annoy them or something.

I am not going to freak out too much yet though, sometimes these things get sorted out. If not they really need to work on their help desk cause there is no way to ask about anything and their FAQ are kinda unhelpful... hopefully there's an answer soon
Reply:OMG!!!!! Just realised, within the last 40 minutes of this question being posted, already 218 people have replied! Feels great to know I'm not alone. My sister tried hers, so did my dad. They're having the same issues...contacts still there, inbox no longer exists. For me though...the damn thing won't even accept my password!!!! I changed it last week, when I had my account hacked! The hacker sent emails to ALL my contacts advertising a fraud electronic store website, then deleted my contacts' list (8 years of a list archived to perfection...first names, last names, middle names even, phone numbers, primary/sec/tertiary email addresses...all gone!). I was able to recover all the email addresses and their full names through my sent mails....but the list was still gone! I called microsoft...howled at their poor customer service...then went back to using the damn thing the next day since I was left with little choice (8 years worth of emails in there). I figured I should consider switching to outlook just yesterday...but couldn't figure out how to set up the thing. And today...poof...it's all gone. What's worse in my case is though, that my password is no longer accepted either!!!! God help us all!!! *fingers crossed* Lets all pray it's only a server error and things go back to normal for most of us by tomorrow morning. And...by the time my message is posted to this thread...I expect to have another 3 replies right after mine...that bring the count to 221? *sigh*

I freaked when it said I had to sign up again, I got through once - thinking it was an upgrade or something - and it asked me for my Windows Live ID and, once typed in, it told me it was already taken - duh, by me! All the other times my "Network Timed Out."
I'm so glad someone posted this question, I was going to break something soon. I think the only thing we can do now is wait it out and hope hotmail fixes the problem. And soon.

There is a constant loop. It says "You don't have an inbox... yet." The only option given is to "Sign up for Windows Live Hotmail". When I click that there is an option that says "Already a Hotmail..... member? Click here." This link simply brings me back to point A where it says "You don't have an inbox... yet."

I have a "hotmail" e-mail address, and the last time I logged in to check my e-mail messages was at about 10:30PM Eastern time on 4/9/2009, and my inbo was there and everything was normal. However, less than an hour ago, I logged in again and my inbox was just GONE. I have been sick and crying my eyes out ever since, because I have an inbox FULL of the most important %26amp; sentimental e-mails anyone could ever imagine. My inbox is one of the most important things to me in he world! It's saying (every time I try to log in) that "You do not have an inbox yet, sign up for one here." Since it appears as if many, many other users are having the same problem all of a sudden, I'm hoping it's just a temporary glitch that MSN will have repaired within the next few hours or so. Until then, I am going to remain very ill. Let's keep our fingers crossed, and hope this gets fixed soon! I also noticed some people said something about a Conficker?
I'm a Mac user and from what i know the Conficker only affects Windows users, so i guess that's not it.

This has happened before and then again now.
I am getting the same error as of yesterday. Just prior to this message I noticed this error that said something like the site is undergoing maintenance.
My guess is that hotmail is migrating to the latest exchange server and that comes with the usual set of architecture and migration of millions of user accounts such as yours and mine. It might take a few days given that we are all free customers, It might never happen as possible the migration expert dumped all our .pst files. Assuming that each hotmail account is held in .PST files.
This is just my guess and theory. Anyways , I always try to duplicate mails and have it stored in yahoo, gmail etc... That way if all the corporations conspire to eliminate free email users, at least there might be one dissenter who will provide free email.
Until then , user a free tool like thunderbird or other email client to download all the emails as soon as you have obtained access. ..

I did manage to access my older mail by using the windows live mail app through msn messenger, which is lucky cos i had tickets that needed printing for today, would've been screwed otherwise.

It's my sole source of contact with loads of people and my storage unit for all school info I've accumulated in the last month from letters of recommendation to student/teacher conversations. You then Install and open Windows LIVE Mail and Messenger (Found on the desktop or in the start menu - make it's its Windows LIVE Mail not Windows Mail). Once it's opened, you can configure your account and it will retrieve your old hotmail files and emails!

Reply:Ok, people earlier in this thread stated that they CAN get into their Hotmail accounts via iPhone and all the e-mails are still there. So it must be something that doesn't affect the iPhone netowrk but does affect desktops and laptops. The important thing is that they report the e-mails are still there. I think that's a good sign.

Finally I just went to hotmail and signed in the old fashioned way and it say's I don't have an inbox. All my contacts are there though.
Something tells me this is conficker.
I hope my 10 years worth of saved emails aren't gone forever. Or maybe it's for the best. Been meaning to clean it out for....... 10 years.

Reply:Ok, people earlier in this thread stated that they CAN get into their Hotmail accounts via iPhone and all the e-mails are still there. So it must be something that doesn't affect the iPhone netowrk but does affect desktops and laptops. The important thing is that they report the e-mails are still there. I think that's a good sign.

Thunderbird Hotmail doesn't work anymore?
I've been using Thunderbird for a while, but in the past few weeks, my accounts gradually stopped working: it keeps giving me the error message that "sending of password did not succeed" or something like that. My passwords haven't changed. I think that what happened is that Hotmail upgraded their servers somehow; the inbox has a new look, but the messages no longer download.

This works for me (sending and receiving). Although it will most likely download all of your messages again.

If it's been a long time since you checked it that could be the reason. I think it's about 6 months of inactivity and then they close it. Or someone could have gotten your password and closed it, but I highly think it's due to the inactivity. Or you just need to sign-in again. If you still have problems, call their customer service.

I use Google Chrome as opposed to Internet Explorer/Firefox etc and had the problem up until about a week ago. Other problems I was having was not being able to navigate to other folders, so to use my hotmail account, I had to do so by using Internet explorer (even though I'd never had the problem in Google Chrome before)
Anyway, the problem is fixed now and I just put it down to Chrome not being fully developed.... ?

Has nothing to do with the Internet service. It is the hotmail. Try reinstalling the messenger and reinstalling rebooting after each. If the problem is still there, than contact help.

Theoretically both should arrive instantainiosly (well almost instantainiosly i.e. they must obey the laws of locality, hehe). No but seriously, if a server is slow due to overload or downtime (or reduced capacity) this may delay an email. Maybe microsoft have better capacity servers than yahoo?

Otherwise if its a free version you can try calling them to ask to reset the password but its likely they won't do anything about it so I don't think there's really not much you can do in that case.

You can use windows live mail to use it for free. you can get it here http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview you don't need to provide server information for hotmail you just give it the user name and password and it will log you in

There is nothing you can do. You should have remembered your security question or made a secondary e-mail to send the password to. Now you will have to lose all your e-mail and make a new account.

Recently, my computer crashed on me, and I got another one, but I can get into my yahoo account, but it won't let me access my hotmail account, and I can't get in for anything. Ok. Hotmail have made it so that the service (hotmail) can no longer be used with outlook. BUT. There is a program they released like outlook. It's called Windows Live Mail Desktop. download it here on the official site. AND then u can read your emails like you do with your bigpond ones.

Which, by the way, is why I no longer use hotmail...

Hi i have some problem in hotmail account it's apper to me This account has been closed?
If it's been a long time since you checked it that could be the reason. I think it's about 6 months of inactivity and then they close it. Or someone could have gotten your password and closed it, but I highly think it's due to the inactivity. Or you just need to sign-in again. If you still have problems, call their customer service.

I use Google Chrome as opposed to Internet Explorer/Firefox etc and had the problem up until about a week ago. Other problems I was having was not being able to navigate to other folders, so to use my hotmail account, I had to do so by using Internet explorer (even though I'd never had the problem in Google Chrome before)
Anyway, the problem is fixed now and I just put it down to Chrome not being fully developed.... ?

Has nothing to do with the Internet service. It is the hotmail. Try reinstalling the messenger and reinstalling rebooting after each. If the problem is still there, than contact help.

I operate yahoo and hotmail, why does the same letter arrive to hotmail much earlier than to yahoo mail?
Theoretically both should arrive instantainiosly (well almost instantainiosly i.e. they must obey the laws of locality, hehe). No but seriously, if a server is slow due to overload or downtime (or reduced capacity) this may delay an email. Maybe microsoft have better capacity servers than yahoo?
